For a three year old and one year old, a trip by train to St. Louis was quite the adventure.

This was one of the first vacations we took as a family.

We headed to the Amtrak station in Lee's Summit, MO for a weekend getaway to St. Louis, Missouri. While the kids were a bit restless on the train ride, there was beautiful scenery and plenty to look at along the way.

We arrived with a bit of time before dinner. We filled the time with a walk around downtown St. Louis. By the time we were finished with our walk, the kids were exhausted so we grabbed a quick dinner and headed back to the hotel for a relaxing evening.

The next morning we conquered the St. Louis Zoo. The St. Louis Zoo came highly recommended and it's free! The habitats for the animals were impressive, however the animals themselves were not easy to find and enjoy. We were a bit disappointed, but it was a free way to spend the day and the kids still had a great time.

That night we ate at Joey D's in Laclede. The pizza was delicious and was the perfect way to end the evening after being in the sun all day.

Saturday, we headed to City Museum. If you have never been to City Museum, it is one of the most interesting places you will ever explore (and get lost in). I described it as an art museum that you climb through, on and around. There is something to see everywhere you look and the kids had a blast exploring.

If you want your kids to face their fears and try new things, City Museum is a great place to do it.

And if you are lucky enough to have the weather cooperate, you can climb through the outside climbing area, where you are basically climbing on air. If you have little ones, be sure you keep up with them, as they can easily get lost throughout their climbing adventures.

After a day climbing, we were ready for our favorite Italian in St. Louis, Charlie Gitto's. As always, it was delicious!

Sunday we had a quick lunch with friends and headed to the Amtrak station to catch our train home.

Overall, our weekend in St. Louis was a lot of fun. There are so many things to do around the area, rain or shine. The Amtrak was a great way to travel to and from St. Louis, but I don't think I would have felt comfortable riding on my own. There were some sketchy stops and with two kids in tow, it would have made me nervous. However, with Brian's help it was perfect.
